Our Lecturers
All our lecturers are English specialists with many years experience of teaching adults Functional Skills English so you will be in safe hands.

Teaching Learning and Assessment
City and Guilds Functional Skills English is taught in a way to help meet your needs. How are you going to get there? You will study 3 components: • Reading • Writing • Speaking, Listening & Communicating (S,L&C) Each category has its own exam. You can progress from Entry to Level 2 and we will assess you to discover which level you will be best for you. Achievement in these qualifications demonstrates that you have the ability to read, write, speak, listen and communicate at an appropriate level and that you can effectively apply these skills to the workplace and real life situations. All you need to bring to each session is a pen and your homework, once set.

We can help!


Our small friendly FREE classes are for adults who want to get a qualification in English in a supportive environment. Don’t worry if you feel nervous about coming back into education - our team of supportive and professional staff will support you to achieve your qualification at a pace that is right for you.


There are no entry requirements and we have Intake Dates throughout the academic year, so if you miss the September start date you will still have the opportunity to join our course.



How Will I Be Assessed
You will be invited to one of our assessment events where you will be given a small assessment that will assess your current level of English.

Entry Requirements
There are no previous qualifications required as we will place you on a level that will best support your English needs.

There are no entry requirements for this course other than a genuine desire to have better English skills.

You will study a variety of units, chosen depending on your level. Your tutor will advise you on specific content when you start your course.



Expenses for this course

We have supportive professional staff who will provide you with the hand outs and information you need to work towards achieving your qualification. You only need to bring writing paper, a pen and a folder to class.



Mode of Study

There is no set duration for this course, you can join at any time and keep studying until you have achieved your goal. Classes run for two hours and we have classes in the mornings, afternoons and evenings, so there is a class that is right for you!
