Introduction to this course

The qualification replaces the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.


The Certificate (Level 4) Education and Training is a first stage qualification designed for people who are working or hope to work as teachers or trainers in any English learning environment. It is also suitable for pre-service teachers/trainers, i.e. people not formally contracted as a teacher/trainer. The course will help you gain the knowledge needed to work in the Further Education and skills sectors, including roles, responsibilities and relationships, inclusive teaching and learning, assessment and working with groups and individuals. You need access to 30 hours of teaching to complete this course.


Entry Requirements

You need Level 2 qualifications, such as a GCSEs, in English and Maths. You also need access to 30 teaching hours.


Career prospects

Gaining this qualification means you can apply for teacher and trainer roles in Further Education and skills learning environment in England. When you successfully complete this qualification, you can progress to higher level training courses to develop your professional skills. Many students take the City & Guilds Diploma (Level 5) Education & Training, also available at Yeovil College.


How will I be assessed?

You will need to complete at least three graded teaching observations for each unit, as well as written assignments. You will also need to do 30 hours of teaching practice.

  • Using Resources for education and training (3 Credits at Level 4)
