Course Information:

Introduction to this course

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an updated version (2013) of City & Guilds Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

If you would like to become a teacher, this knowledge-based introduction to the profession is an excellent starting point, preparing you for a teaching role and higher level training. This course will give you an understanding of roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. The course covers sequencing learning, planning and delivering sessions, using appropriate resources and teaching methods, as well as identifying the characteristics of effective assessment and feedback. You do not need to be teaching already to take this course.

Entry Requirements

You need a Level 2 qualification in English, such as a GCSE. A Level 2 qualification in Maths is also desirable.

Career prospects

This is an introductory teaching course. It prepares you for an initial teaching role and for higher level training, such as the Certificate (Level 4) and Diploma (Level 5) Education & Training, also available at Yeovil College.

How will I be assessed?

You will complete an assignment of two or more tasks for each module. These are often started in the very practical classes with an activity, so you are encouraged to attend regularly to make sure you are fully prepared to tackle assignments.

You do not need to have teaching practice to take the course, but if you are currently teaching, you may use materials created for your teaching towards your assignments.

Your knowledge of micro-teaching will be assessed in class, so you must attend this session.
